When Merlot grows up…
The South African public has, rightly or wronglym, pegged merlot as soft, medium-bodied, with a sprinkling of red berries. The reality is that South Africa produces everything from big structured leathery titans, through to plush plummy velvet fruit fests, and everything in between. All with the same humble merlot grape.
This little guy, vinified by Matt Copeland, using estate fruit from Vondeling in Voor-Paardeberg is a lovely (slightly more serious) variation on the merlot theme.
