Rietvallei Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Revenge of the Plonk Route

This guy has a nose like a proboscis monkey. Positively gargantuan elements of blackcurrant, tobacco leaf, mint, cigar box, fresh soil, violets…the list goes on. And what a pleasure to drink! This experience only serves to further entrench my secret wine crush on the big reds coming out of the Robertson Wine Region. Disparagingly referred to as the plonk route in years gone by, Robertson is a rising star in my mind – especially with regards to their Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet Francs. As for this guy? Superbly ripe in style, but certainly not flabby. Layers and layers of black fruit pastille, and a little bungalow-like structure on the tail end to keep it all honest.

🔬Made from 23-year-old Robertson vines. Fermented in open concrete tanks. Racked into 300 litre French Barrels.
