Sanniesrust Grenache Blanc 2020
A wine without make-up
—
This wine is what Jamie Goode would describe as “a wine without makeup”. Contrary to a lot of the pricier South African grenache blancs, this guy is one of the more primary expressions. That said, there is no lack of complexity.
The wine is fermented on skins, and shows lovely texture to support the layers of citrus fruit, stone fruit, and hints of white pepper. Fruit is from 20-year-old bush vines, and are fermented as whole bunch, and left on skins for 28 days before being pressed. The wine spends a further 9 months in old oak before filtering and bottling.
