South Africa is having a purple patch with its aromatic whites right now. South African Sauvignon Blanc has always been a powerhouse at the lower end of the quality spectrum, but premium Savvy Bee (if you’re allowed to call it that) is on the rise, along with some rather lovely muscats and rieslings from places like Durbanville, Elim, and Constantia.

This Riesling is an off-dry example…which is risky… It’s kinda like that meat dress that Gaga wore. If Miley Cyrus had done it, it would have felt trashy. But when Gaga does it, it’s art 😂
This is one of the few off-dry South African examples that I think manages to hit that latter category. ​
