#129 Cavalli Estate Filly Chenin Blanc 2020
But what does 96 points mean?
🧐 With 96 points, the Cavalli Filly is the highest score Chenin Blanc in the WineMag.co.za Top Ten Chenin Blanc report for 2021. While there were only 90 Chenin Blancs in the 2021 competition, the average price for these wines was ZAR192.00, so there was clearly no shortage of “premium” chenin blanc under scrutiny. With an experienced panel including journalist Christian Eedes and International blind taster Jolette Steyn, this result is more reliable than most.
🍷 This bottling is still fairly youthful, and will only improve with a year or two in the bottle. That said, right now, there is no shortage of complexity, and vibrance.
🔬100% Chenin blanc from Stellenbosch. Grapes were whole-bunch-pressed, followed by fermentation in French oak barrels (a combo of new oak, 2nd fill and 3rd fill 225L barrels). The wine is kept on its lees for 10 months until bottling.
