#145 Zorgvliet Petit Verdot 2018

Stellenbosch cool kids
Zorgvliet Estate in Banghoek, Stellenbosch, has a long history of medal-worthy single cultivar reds. Their Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon have always presented concentrated, structured age-worthy reds at great prices. They can now add the Petit Verdot to their list of award-winners.
👄 What makes this wine particularly impressive is that it manages to deliver a lovely mix of both red and black fruit, which is a level of complexity one doesn’t often achieve in a grape like Petit Verdot. The Banghoek altitude, along with the Zorgvliet terroir combine to produce a very special bottling.
🔬 This award-winning cultivar wine was fermented in Stainless steel before being racked into 225-litre french barrels for malolactic conversion. The final components were racked three times to improve clarity and then aged in barrel for 14 months. The wine was then blended and returned to barrel for a final four months.
