What a scoop! This modest little wine shot to stardom, and then promptly sold out when it scored 97 points at Michael Fridjohn’s Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show. It went on to win THREE trophies – Best Cabernet Franc, Best New Discovery, and Best Red Wine overall.

🔬Perhaps most intriguingly, the Thokozani label is a project launched by Diemersfontein Wine Estate that gives workers at the estate share options in the business. The stratospheric success of the wine has not only rewarded employees who have already bought into the project, but has also seen a huge upswing in the number of employees who are investing in this project to benefit from future success. A label to watch for future vintages.

👃🏼/👄 The wine itself is not hugely weighty, but it is delightfully expressive in its youth, with an gargantuan skeg of rose petal, pot pourri, grape sherbet, tilled earth, bell pepper, asparagus, star anise, and violets.
