AN ORGANIC ROUSSANNE FROM SWARTLANDS FOOTHILLS

Today’s wine is the Org de Rac Roussanne—an organic white from the Swartland, grown in the foothills of the Piketberg mountains.
The farm isn’t in a ward, isn’t near the action, and isn’t trying to chase trends. But every so often, they drop something award-winning—then vanish into the dust again.
Case in point? Their Merlot made the Merlot Top 10 last year. Yes—Swartland Merlot.
And now this Roussanne? It was the top-scoring Roussanne in theWineMag.co.za’s Minority Report for 2025.

If you have yet to sign up for your Monthly HanDrinksSolo Wine Subscription then you’ll have to hunt this wine down in your own time. But until then, here are my tasting notes and some technical specs:

TASTING NOTES

On the nose:  it’s a layered swirl of nectarine, honeybush tea, lemon bonbon, and a whisper of frangipani and marzipan. Think of a picnic in late spring, with someone nearby peeling a tangerine and steeping rooibos.

Taste:  Flavors carry through ripe white peach, a line of lime marmalade, and a beautifully pithy finish—like someone zested citrus rind over almond nougat. At 13.5% alcohol, it tastes lighter thanks to its bright tension. The vineyard’s higher elevation and cooler currents clearly help balance ripeness with lift.
