Like Madonna, there is no denying the genius, but one just wishes one had caught the show in its prime.
Vanguard: sweet honey, raisins, almonds and apricots.
On the palate: a little hollow, where the heart seems to have faded somewhat, but there is still some prominent yellow apple acidity, some ripe nectarine, lemon zest, oaky vanilla & more almonds on the tail.
A class act that I caught perhaps a year or two too late, and yet would probably still buy another bottle, if only I could find it.
Even when a little over the hill, this Viognier is still a masterpiece.

Is Viognier more Raquel Welch or Mickey Rourke?

As in life so in wine; some critters will be smashing beauties 50 years from now and beyond. Others will make you grimace violently before dry heaving into your handbag. People are kinda like that, too. Take our subjects Raquel (77 yrs old at time of publishing) and Mickey (only 64 yrs old at time of publishing). The question on everyone’s mind at HDS today is: Is Viognier in Team Raquel, or Team Mickey? A penny for your thoughts? Leave a comment below.

They also usually have addictive tendencies. When he is not roasting beans he is pulling corks. Or deftly removing screwcap enclosures. But you can read more about him here.
