Kinda like when Radiohead released Amnesiac in 2001, no one thought that they’d still be kicking it in 2017. The same can be said of this guy.
TN: Vanguard is explosive, with aromas of cassis, spicy oak, moist potting soil & dried violets
Palate holds a cassis core with lovely black cherry acidity.
Length is moderate with another explosion of oak, black pepper, and cassis on the finish.
Vergelegen only gave this guy 15 years to live, but I feel like it still has some legs on it yet!
Colour is still quite dense, tannins are silky but definitely present, and fruit is marvellously intact. A treat, to be sure.
4 things you may not know about Radiohead
1. Thom’s lazy eye is totally real. It is in no way an item of stage makeup designed to reduce his mass appeal and give him indie street cred.
2. Thom Yorke’s dad was an amateur boxer. He wanted Thom to follow in his footsteps, but Thom turned out to be a lover, not a fighter. And by “lover”, I mean pessimistic, cynical, tormented genius.
3. Proving the point, Thom wrote Radiohead’s breakout single, “Creep” after getting epic rejection from a betty that he was quite keen on at college. Talk about a silver lining!
4. Watching Jeff Buckley live was the experience that convinced Thom that a guy could sing falsetto without sounding like a total nunce.
Thank goodness for that, or we would have no Coldplay, Travis, Bon Iver, Civil Twilight, or Muse.
About the Author
Jono Le Feuvre is not a bean counter. He is a bean roaster. Bean roasters carry far more street cred & get to speak at bizarre niche gatherings of enquiring-but-unhinged-minds. They also usually have addictive tendencies. When he is not roasting beans he is pulling corks. Or deftly removing screwcap enclosures. But you can read more about him here.
