#176 Ken Forrester Silver Rose Rosé 2021
The man, the myth, the legend
—
🤓 To fully understand the wine, and its pedigree one has to go back a few year to understand how Mr Forrester became Mr Chenin, and why Mr Chenin has also earned the right to take a few liberties with the Grenache Noir cultivar.
🍇 While the rosé trend of 2021 has been towards lean laser-like slightly reductive rosés, with a focus on acid and freshness. This single-vineyard Silver Rose bottling is diametrically opposed to all those, delivering pristine levels of fruit, and letting acid play second fiddle. An interesting shift in emphasis. It is remarkably full on the palate, with layers and layers of berry fruit…BUT it holds sufficient elements of citrus bitterness and gentle acidity to keep the fruit in check.
🔬 100% Stellenbosch Grenache Noir from a single vineyard. Harvested at 22 balling, and fermented using Vin13, the wine was matured on lees for 9 months in tank. Alcohol is 12% ABV and RS is 6g, but rather than present as sweetness on the palate, those 6g act as a magnifying glass for all the fruit elements.
💰 ZAR195.00 (As of January 2022)
