Finding ZinnerMan

For the longest time, Californians assumed that Zinfandel was a grape indigenous to California; their only indigenous vitis vinifera. One can imagine their horror and indignation when it was discovered that Zinfandel was not indigenous at all, and in fact had been living a double life in Southern Italy, eons before California was even a thing. What’s worse, was that Italy didn’t even appreciate this American hero, and claimed that they had relcutantly adopted him. Meanwhile, in the sleepy little coastal nook known as Croatia, ampelographers were uncovering a family controversy to rival the finest Brooke, Eric & Ridge moments.
But more about that in the video. For now you’ll have to settle for a few tasting notes and some technical details:
👃🏼Nose is delightfully extroverted, full of  black plum, blackcurrant fruit pastilles, blueberries, violets, with some hits of slighter redder strawberry sherbet, too.
👄 Palate is both broad and delightfully dense, with rich layers of concentrated black fruit, elevated by liquorice spice, and staunch tannins. But the lovely thing about those big tannins is that they remain wrapped in that persistent black fruit throughout the fairly lengthy tail.
The sweeter blackcurrant fruit pastille elements lean up against more juicy blackberry acidity. It’s a big bold fruit-forward wine, which I guess puts an end to the illusion that “only new world wines” can deliver big, rich, dense waves of fruit.
🔬 Manduria DOC, Apulia. ABV 14.5%
💰 R185.00
