Somewhere in the last 20 years, rosé became weirdly aspirational for the first time in a couiple of Millenia.
Hard as it may be to believe, rouglhy 2000 years ago,serious winos did not drink red wine. And the same was true roughly 500 years before that, in Greece, where the wealthy elite drank nothing but watered down rosé and it was only uncouth peasant folk who drank anything that came even close to resembling them far darker more intensely coloured red wines of our modern era.
A few millenia later rosé had lost its lustre and was largely derided as the nonsense-juice from mickey-mouse-grapes that weren’t good enough to be used to make red wine (with the exception of sparkling wines coming out of Champagne). Today’s wine of the day obliterates all that derision!
