Creation Wines Reserve Pinot Noir 2019

HANSCORE: 21.5/25
This wine is like that time James McAvoy replaced Patrick Stewart as Prof Xavier. He retained the regal quality of the OG, but brought a little “nouveau street” to the performance.
Creation can happily sit alongside the Walker Bay old guard (the likes of Hamilton Russell & Bouchard Finlayson) but possesses a new world power that the others lack. Whether or not this sort of power belongs in a Pinot Noir is a different conversation entirely.

👃🏼 A supremely open nose carries dried leaves, mushroom, ripe blackberries, cola, and oak.
👄 Mouthfeel is oh-so-silky, but simultaneously suprisingly full, rich, and layered. Elements of lackberries and cherry fizzpop candy present upfront, with a juicy tail of fresh cherry fruit and cherry lifesaver elements that lasts longer than a cigarette ban. Tannins have all but melted. Supreme.
🔬 Barrel-fermented, with malolactic conversion. Matured in oak for 12 months. 35% new oak. 65% 2nd-fill and 3rd-fill.
💸💸 ZAR370.00 (as of January 2021)
