Castello Banfi Col di Sasso Toscana IGT 2018

HANSCORE: 14/25

I am aware that calling a wine “nondescript”, and then spending the next 150 words describing it is ironic. But I guess I’m going to have embrace the irony. Because while this wine is thoroughly forgettable, there may be elements that I detail below that will appeal to a wine lover… who isn’t me.
And, I guess, in a world where everyone is looking to connect with something, my hope is that my description of this disappointingly undistinguished vin de plonk will be read by someone who loves forgettable wines. And perhaps some beautiful acceptance – yay, verily, even appreciation – will be born at that intersection. Just not by me.

👃🏼 Slightly shy nose herbs, leather, boiled candy.
👄 Pleasant-but-insufficient cherry elements on the vanguard segues quite nicely into more gentle red berries, and sweet plum tomato. Mouthfeel is medium-light, and there are some fine tannins and sort-of unripe-strawberry elements on tail, but generally very little to intrigue. One would hope for some laser-like acidity, or an aromatic explosion…or at least a tail end that lingers longer than morning breath after boozy tripe dinner…but none of those elements pitched up to save the day. It’s a quaffer. If quaffing is your thing, this is for you.🔬 13% alc. An unspecified blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. Fermented in stainless steel tanks.
💸💸 ZAR175.00 (as of February 2021)

I actually quite enjoyed it. And i didn't feel like Han was dissing it at all. 19/25 is decent score for a wine in that price bracket.

Yeah, completely WB. I'm a big fan!

100% agree. Just because it's foreign, doesn't mean that it's good.
