Wildeberg Coterie Cabernet Franc / Malbec 2019
It won’t be a secret for long
Franschhoek outfit Wilderberg are producing some incredible wines right now at the sort of the sort of value that only a “best kept secret” can. But I don’t think they’re doing to stay this way.
Winemaker JD Russouw had no trouble impressing Tim Atkin, with more than a few of his wines scoring 90 points and upward.
This little Cabernet Franc Malbec blend may sound like a soft option, but it manages to present itself as fairly seriously, showcasing some of the muscle you might associate with a Loire Cab Franc.
Fruit is hand-harvested vineyards in Paarl and Franschhoek. 60% Cabernet Franc / 40% Malbec. Aged in a mixture of new and older French oak demi-muids for 18 months.
