Hartenberg Estate and the Allan Savory Adventure
Hartenberg Estate in South Africa are one of only two estates in the world to achieve full certification from the Savory Global Institute of Holistic management. Through the work of both cellarmaster Carl Schulz and viticulturist Wilhelm Joubert, the Hartenberg team embarked on a long, slow, methodical investigation into the concept of “high density contrrolled grazing:, adapting the practises of conservationist Allan Savory so that they couold be applied to the Hartenberg Vineyards.

Groundbreaking viticulture aside, Hartenberg are also creating some fascinating wines; not least of all the Hartenberg Tenacity Grenache Noir 2019.

TASTING NOTES
👃🏼 The vanguard is commendably generous, with wafts of smoky oak and sweeter vanilla spice. From beneath the oak spice emerges some really generous ripe strawberry fruit and plums.
There are herbs and spices as well; a touch of fennel, and hints of clove.
👄 On the palate, the first thing one notices is the structure. Mostly because, if you drink a lot of South African Grenache, you don’t expect expect a lot of structure. But this wine carries some beautiful tannins, which couch within them that ripe strawberry fruit, red plum fruit, and also darker touches of sugar plum and blueberry.
The finish is actually delightfully fresh and juicy one senses a black cherry element that lingers delightfully.
