#387 Noble Hill Crux Nova Mataro 2024
VIDEO CHAPTER INDEX:
What is Mataro?
So what then, is Monastrell?
But despite being unequivolcally Spanish, the South African wine industry almost exclusively uses the French nomenclature of “Mourvedre”.
In the south of France is, for the most part, blended with cultivars like Syrah and Grenache, but in the appellation of Bandol it received special recognition from AOC laws. Red and Rosé wines from this region have to be more than 50% of any blend that wishes to state the Bandol appellation on the label. At its most concentrated, these wines feature as much as 95% of the grape.
BUT, more widely, it is generally blended with cultivars like Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah.
TASTING NOTES
👄 The palate is gloriously fresh, with a vibrant array of strawberry, cherry and raspberry sherbet. There are even touches of juicy citrus as well. While this wine is light and fresh (and could be tossed back beside the pool) there is a level of class here, displayed through the abundantly complex seams of different sorts of fruit that get woven together into a delicious tapestry of joy.
