#186 Rustenberg Roussanne 2021

Platinum Belt Pioneers
Rustenburg were the first estate in South Africa to produce a 100% Roussanne bottling. The imported clones from Monteplier, France ,into South Africa, back in 2004.

🔬 Rustenberg have been quite strategic in their production of this wine, keeping things as simple as possible. The wine is tank-fermented, and kept on the lees for only one month. The end result is a wine that extraordinarily faithful to the cultivar. Exactly what one wants when presenting it to a wine lover for the first time.
👃🏼 A delightfully primary nose of green apples, some pear, sweeter honeysuckle, as well as some intriguing vegetal and white pepper.
👄 The palate is delightfully textured, with a dry finish (thanks to tannins in the stems). Spice comes to the fore, complicated the fruit elements quite remarkably.
Despite the “genre” – tank-fermented with short lees maturation – I still think this wine will get better for the next five years.
